1) What is a Beagle mix?

In recent years the popularity of hybrid dogs, where one breed is crossed with another, has soared. These 'designer' dogs are normally a cross of two pedigrees, with the intention of creating puppies that share the appearance and character traits of both parents. Some of these hybrids, such as the Labradoodle and Cockapoo, have been very successful. Others crosses are not such a great idea, as they emphasize physical abnormalities and lead to unhealthy puppies.

Beagles are often chosen to cross with other breeds because of their healthy physique and delightful temperament. These characteristics combine well with many other breeds of dog, creating some fun and unusual hybrids.

When it comes to Beagle mixes, it pays to be just as cautious as when getting a pedigree. There are good and bad hybrid breeders out there, and unscrupulous breeding leads to puppies with health and behavioral problems. Make sure to do your research carefully, and only ever purchase from a reputable breeder. A good hybrid dog breeder will only use pedigree parents that have been fully health tested, and will never breed two hybrid dogs together.
